Unidad 1Reading & Global Issues

  • Reading for Main Ideas & Details: advanced Skimming and Scanning strategies applied to news articles and opinion columns on global issues (climate change, migration, AI ethics)
  • Fact vs. Opinion in English: identifying bias and author's purpose in current news texts — distinguishing objective reporting from persuasive writing
  • Literature in Context: reading extracts from contemporary literature and essays (e.g. dystopian fiction, modern poetry) and analysing their social and ethical themes
  • Vocabulary in Context: deducing the meaning of complex academic words without a dictionary, using prefixes, suffixes, roots and contextual clues
  • Critical Discourse Analysis: reading editorials from different media outlets to analyse how word choice (adjectives, framing) manipulates the reader's perception
  • Reading Academic Papers: introduction to reading real Abstracts from scientific or humanities research papers in English — identifying purpose, method and findings

Unidad 2Listening & Media Literacy

  • TED Talks & Documentaries: active listening to lectures on science, technology and human rights — identifying the speaker's purpose, tone and key arguments
  • Academic Note-Taking: taking efficient notes while listening to long audio (using symbols, abbreviations and mind maps) — a university-ready skill
  • Understanding Different Accents: conscious exposure to non-standard English (Australian, Scottish, Indian, South African accents) to prepare for a globalised world
  • Implied Meaning: understanding humour, sarcasm and implicit suggestions in interviews with public figures — reading between the lines
  • Shadowing and Pitch Analysis: listening to an inspiring speech (e.g. Greta Thunberg, Malala) and analysing how the speaker raises or lowers pitch to emphasise emotions
  • Podcast Analysis: listening to a real debate podcast and orally summarising the two positions presented, practising balanced reporting in English

Unidad 3Writing: Argumentation & Academic English

  • The Argumentative Essay: full structure — Introduction (Hook + Thesis Statement), Body Paragraphs with evidence and examples, and a strong Conclusion
  • Cohesion and Coherence: using upper-intermediate linking words (Furthermore, Consequently, On the other hand, Nevertheless) to build fluent academic paragraphs
  • Formal Correspondence: writing Cover Letters for a job application, exchange scholarship or university admission — register, format and persuasion
  • Synthesizing Information: writing a short report that combines data from a chart or graph with information from a written article
  • Cleft Sentences for Emphasis: adding academic weight to essays using structures like 'It is climate change that poses the greatest threat...' or 'What we need is...'
  • The Nuance of Modality — Hedging: writing with academic caution — replacing 'This causes cancer' with 'This may contribute to...' or 'Evidence suggests that...'

Unidad 4Speaking: Debate & Interaction

  • Expressing and Defending Opinions: complex phrases to open an argument (From my perspective, As far as I'm concerned, I firmly believe that...)
  • The Art of Interrupting and Agreeing: polite interruption in debates (If I could just come in here...) and partial agreement (I see your point, but...)
  • Panel Discussions: organising roundtables on current ethical problems (e.g. AI in schools, migration crisis, social media regulation)
  • Fluency Building: speaking non-stop for 2 minutes on a random topic — losing the fear of making mistakes and building confidence
  • Socratic Seminars in English: a deep philosophical question based on a text — students guide the entire conversation themselves, asking each other questions in English
  • Persuasive Pitch: presenting a 'Startup' proposal to the class and answering tough audience questions in real time — entrepreneurship meets English fluency

Unidad 5Language in Use — Advanced Grammar

  • Past Perfect & Past Perfect Continuous: narrating complex historical events and stories (By the time the police arrived, the thief had already left)
  • Conditionals Review (0, 1, 2, 3): full review applied to regrets, hypothetical situations about the environment and technology
  • Reported Speech (Advanced): reporting political speeches and news using precise reporting verbs (He claimed that... / She denied doing... instead of simple 'said')
  • Thematic Vocabulary: Human Rights, Sustainability, Emerging Technology and Politics — building an advanced lexical bank for academic contexts
  • Mixed Conditionals: talking about how a past action affects the present — 'If I had studied harder last year (past), I would speak fluent English now (present)'
  • Inversion for Rhetorical Effect: using negative adverbs at the start for dramatic, literary tone — 'Never have I seen such destruction...' / 'Not only did they win, but they also broke the record'
